Dear Roger, I want to tell you that you are not alone in your anger and suffering. I am an American woman living in France with my British husband. I need to return to the US for medical care, but I am not able to take my husband with me because in order to get the green card, he is mandated to take three vaccines at once, including the flu vaccine. That vaccine killed my grandmother less than 24 hours after she was injected. I do not need to take vaccines to enter the US, but my husband does. We have submitted a religious exemption to the government, praying it will be approved. But the government will take three years to make their decision. So I am exiled in France in order to be with the husband I love so much. If he is not granted the exemption, I will have to choose between my country and my husband. The choice is utterly agonizing. My health is deteriorating everyday that I wait. To have told you about this has given me some comfort. I thank you for your essays. They make me feel not so alone.
Absolutely spot-on. In New Zealand it was almost impossible for anyone to get a vax exemption, on medical grounds or otherwise, yet it was discovered that a blanket exemption was 'granted' to all federal government employees above a certain pay level. I guess they were all too important, and fearful, to suffer adverse reactions. DO NOT COMPLY!
“it's about making resistance so humiliating and bureaucratically burdensome that most people will choose submission over the degrading spectacle of having to justify their basic human rights.” Boom! 💥
In a similar place, Roger. A couple of years ago the resistance was tough, but explaining to my teenagers that resistance was more important than meeting a mandate to attend a concert or go to a restaurant is an easier line to hold than the one against their colleges or nursing schools.
(This is also for Doc). Not sure if you know the Substacker Bill Rice Jr in Alabama - he has written a LOT about US college vax mandates over the years - which ones require, which don't etc. He may have some ideas. He is also really involved in sporting life and is just an all-round nice guy: https://billricejr.substack.com/
A really great article. I hope that you have written more along these lines and I intend to read it if you have. Truly we have come a long way since I was a child and although much of todays life is an improvement from when I was a child, much has been lost, as your screed so elequentIy describes.
I understand exactly how you feel. I refused to play the exemption game. I saw unjabbed happily clutching their little permission slips and fake vax passes, swanning around like fake freedom fighters, still embedded in the system they were pretending to fight like children with bathroom hall passes. Fuck them.
Or maybe...fuck me because I did not play the game and now my life is ruined.
No answer for you doc. No one is winning right now. If I were in your position I would get an expensive laywer and scare the shit out of them lol. Most important thing is that your kid doesn't get jabbed.
Yes, I observed the same thing in Australia. Every time I was approached by a hand-wringing shop assistant asking about my lack of mask, I made sure to say in a strong voice, "I am exempt". Not, "I have an exemption", which is playing the game, but I am exempt because I say I am exempt. (I lost my career as a teacher due to lack of vaccination, but I regret nothing about that choice.)
I ignored them, said absolutely nothing and went about my business. If they refused to ring up my goods I just walked out and left. I literally had no fucks to give and owe no one an explanation.
You are not alone in your anger and frustration. My daughter had to apply to colleges during the summer of 2021 after she was accepted and committed in the SUNY system. Andrew Cuomo signed an executive order mandating the vaccine 10 days after national acceptance day. No exemptions were allowed. Thankfully Desales University (in your backyard) had rolling admissions and she was accepted. Graduated this past May. That freshman class broke records, largely because Desales did not have a mandate. I am forever grateful to them for their courage to respect students rights to medical freedom.
Families all over the world are caught in this devil's bargain and it's such a hopeless feeling to be at someone else's mercy. People who are vaccinated are supposed to be protected. How it makes any difference to those "protected" that your son chooses not to is mind-boggling.

Also the 11,000 New Zealand health care workers that were granted exemptions by the Minister, sometimes entire departments at a time: https://newzealanddoc.substack.com/p/secret-jab-exemptions-for-healthcare

Great article. Thank you!
Kinda like opting out of the Leidos at the airport. Total humiliation.
What is “Leidos” ? Thanks for clarifying as I may want to learn before my next flight…

This is exactly the kind of referral I’ve been looking for. And he’s in my neck of the woods!! Thank you!
At your service ma'am.
