I wish I’d known how insidious this whole industry was 25 years ago. I lost a huge part of my life to antidepressants.

And if a practice doesn’t give the phq-9 to its patients, it gets financially punished by the insurance companies. It’s all so corrupt.

What is astonishing is the ubiquity of these box ticking, decontextualising, abusive, forms. They are everywhere these days. The PHQ9, GAD7 and other such forms play a central role to determine so called 'recovery' in the UK's national Talking Therapies service, formally IAPT. No matter if your life is falling apart, you have no resources, and are struggling with a range of cultural disorders just as long as you score below clinical. Just a little people pleasing, mixed into the power imbalance of 'client' and 'therapist' and presto another recovery winner joins the ever widening mass drop out revolving door.

I'm sure by now even Lord Layard must be thinking perhaps it is inequality, political and economic decisions causing 'depression' and 'anxiety' and not the other way around. Probably not, but either way his claim that treating these so called disorders would pay for its self in a reduced benefits bill has clearly failed. Ever more seeking a DSM label and self labelling, ever more falling into the self fulfilling prophecies, ever more pill popping, ever more sickness and benefits being claimed, ever more suicide, ever more of the mental ill health system ever more ill health.

Dr. McFillin, I'm so thankful for your work. Do you know when your resource list of clinicians will be available? My daughter and granddaughter are in great need of help.
