I am a psychologist from Denmark, and I almost completely agree with your position. Five-eight years ago, I would have agreed completely. Today I have a better understanding of all the damage caused by vaccines. That we are all more or less vaccine damaged. So the chemical imbalance in the brain is BS, and psychotropic drugs are not the solution. But I think many people have brains that are not functioning optimal because they are vaccine damaged. And the younger generations have had more vaccines, and are therefore more damaged. Also Toby Rogers is worth reading on this topic. So we need to end the embracing of victimization, learn to accept obstacles as an opportunity to learn and grow. But we also have to stop vaccinating.
This comment seems strange to me. I am aware there’s a whole anti-vaccine movement alive since … geez I remember talk of this in the 70’s. I’m not even going to ask for scholarly articles, since I imagine you and your ilk have lists of them on hand. One solution fits all, huh?
“We inhabit a world of psychic dislocation where we must either cooperate with lies, remain silent in the face of them or stand up and confront them. The psychological stress this Hobson’s choice exerts is enormously destructive. The instability and vulnerability to mental illness which the pressure to conform sows, can destabilize organizations, institutions and entire movements.” ~ Michael Hoffman
I came to the conclusion that the purpose of propaganda in communist countries was not to persuade, much less to inform, but to humiliate and emasculate. In this sense, the less true it was, the less it corresponded in any way to reality, the better. The more it contradicted the experience of the persons to whom it was directed, the more docile, self-despising, and impotent they became for their failure to protest.”
—Theodore Dalrymple, The Wilder Shores of Marx: Journeys in a Vanishing World
In this age in which so many lack meaning in their lives, psychiatric diagnoses provide them with ersatz identities, a label for their anomie. At least with a diagnosis of F41.1 (ICD-10 code for generalized anxiety disorder), they are somebody. Formerly people shared horoscope signs as an initial conversational gambit, or their major, or what they did for work. Now they trade diagnoses to signal their identity of victimhood, e.g. "Hi, I'm neurodivergent with ADHD and a bit of OCD. Who are you?"
Dr. McFillin, this is a great essay and full of truth. I would like to send it on to a bunch of people, especially my children, but I won't because it includes so much bad language. I know the f-word and other scatological language have become almost normalized today, but some of us still find it objectionable. I subscribe to quite a few Substack writers, and I've been impressed that you are probably the finest writer of them all. You are capable of expressing all sorts of emotions, including outrage, without resorting to obscenities. I love your work and it has been so helpful in dealing with my daughter. It is because of you that she is now off her medication. I am so thankful to you, and that's why I'm a paid subscriber. I just ask you to refrain from the obscenities in the future, as I believe you have in the past, so your work can benefit my children and grandchildren.
Hi Natalie- my writing is genuine & often inspired by events I face throughout the course of my day. Sometimes I speak like this (or runs through my mind)- I am sorry if this offends but it is genuine to who I am... sometimes. You are correct- most of the time I will not use obscenities - but at other times it is the most descriptive way to communicate my emotional experience at the time and is part of culture. Not meant to be offensive- but rather descriptive. I must stay true to this or my writings would not be genuine.
For what it's worth Australians don't mind the swearing lol.
They would be thrilled to see a doc like you especially if you dropped f-bombs in practice. You would have a queue of lads out the door waiting to see you.
Doc, please keep doing you! This world needs much more “inappropriate affect”. 😄. Natalie is sitting high on her perch trying to control us as she does her daughter. It won’t work lady! Eat pray and marry a simp!
You can always copy/paste this to an AI agent and ask it to remove the profanity, or do it yourself in a word doc with find/replace if you want to share it out.
I always think of someone who uses the f-word excessively as a person with a weak vocabulary. Can't you find a more descriptive adjective than 'f***ing'?
One important thing missing from this discussion is the assault on children's bodies by products that cause neurological damage associated with attention problems, or physical symptoms that mirror anxiety, like racing hearts and the feeling of impending doom.
Vaccine injury leads to subsequent diagnosis with ADHD or anxiety disorder that has a physical cause, and is not just medicalizing normal emotions.
So true. Every single word. Sadly, my son has fallen into this trap and it’s going exactly like described here. Thank you for sharing this with such passion for true healing. Blessings. ❤️
Incredible read. I imagine this would be tough to stomach by most people especially if you're currently self-medicating or believe the doctor's are the only ones with a solution. I haven't been to a doctor in over 10 years and I'll probably never go back. Taking responsibility for my health wasn't easy, but it is definitely an option that saved me a lot of money and a lot of stress
There's so much to agree with here. I want to drag several people over to my screen and make them read it, but I don't think it would do any good because they are already locked up behind those bars.
Biological derangement owing to chronic stress or poisoning is real. Ask yourself why some people can live happy, fruitful lives even in terrible situations. The answer can't be psychology as that's obviously nonsense.
The symptoms in the body of a depressed or anxious person are good pointers as to what's gone wrong and how to appropriately correct it. Asking people to wait for a perfect world as a solution to their ills obviously isn't very fair seeing as it's not going to happen tomorrow, nor is there any evidence it would be enough to solve their problem.
Psychiatry's interventions make no sense, but that doesn't mean throwing the baby out with the bath water.
I read this essay as an argument for building up or simply trusting our natural immunity to exaggerated threats. I’ve recently heard it explained as internal vs external locus of control, where those with internal locus have power and agency over their response to events. They aren’t waiting for life to be perfect (that’s the external-locus frame); but rather using their own faculties to forge a healthy perspective that allows them to move forward and participate in life. Maybe it’s analogous to someone who is burdened by 50 lbs of extra weight. He can approach the problem by taking semaglutide (sp?) drugs, or by getting physically active and eating nutritious foods with more care and attention. With the latter approach he’s making his own world closer to perfect using his own strength and determination — and it’s hard! But not impossible. Much better that way.
"but rather using their own faculties to forge a healthy perspective that allows them to move forward and participate in life"
That's not possible when something is wrong on the biological level. It's no coincidence this sort of advice comes from psychologists. Not knowing anything about biology allows for all sorts of bad ideas.
Thank you so much for saying what I have been thinking these last 20 years as a therapist. It is becoming almost untenable to stay in this field. I am grief stricken at what these younger generations are up against with the pharmaceutical industrial complex doing such an incredible job of convincing them that their very easily understood human emotions are a disease that needs to be treated with chemicals that are literally and figuratively castrating them, shortening lifespan, creating more serious outcomes sometimes before the children are even two years old! Who the fuck gives psych drugs to children that young? This has gotten so far off course. But perhaps even more disturbing is the folks in their 50's who cannot seem to remember life before this monstrosity of a narrative began to shape their understanding of what it meant to be human, what it meant to be an adolescent, and are giving their children a pill for every feeling they have. BLOWS MY MIND. Lord, help them all.
Dr. McFillin, I'm a psychiatrist whom you'd get along with really well.
First, you have no idea how many times I've summarized a patient's story back to him, and shocked him by asking, "and you're surprised that you feel depleted? Sad? Nervous? Anxious?"
Second, we truly have it backward: Patients should start with psychologists, and through steady talk and exploration, discover whether there is something psychopathological that does require more intensive treatment. Sometimes there is, but it's rare.

I’m not even going to ask for scholarly articles, since we both know that even if you can prove your point, I am not going to accept it anyway.
Psychiatry is a crime against humanity.

Print it off and redact it with a marker, then hand it out. Some of us appreciate the language used here!

But she has to have the scolding of another to make it through a day. Scolding is natural Prozac

“My rheumatism medicine “ as granny Clampett would say.

I see it everywhere and it’s so frightening.
