For some of us, we didn’t park the kids in front of TV’s nor hand them glowing rectangles and STILL this BS diagnosis came down—why? Because it is a very convenient way to deflect meaningful conversations that might be had around education reform and its utter lack of inspiration from both an environment standpoint meaning the actual classrooms squashing any impetus to feel engaged and the curriculums that offer students zero real-world application incentive; that offer no reward to wonder about or imagine deeply into Anything presented as being required to learn.

And this cautionary tale can apply to multiple rackets across the board of the global hegemonic mafia shell game. Luckily the Apocalypso is here so Dance!!!🕺

Yes. Read this post and just change the ADHD to perimenopause. The diagnosis/excuse for women over 35. Makes sense to me.

Niamh Ni Argain's avatar

Some cultures don't even have a word for menopause itself. Periods stop at some point but the Chinese language does not have a unique word for the phenomenon.

It makes me wonder whether some of it could be iatrogenic or psychosomatic?

Maybe focus on Peri is a good thing...or perhaps not? Could all the ficus be the cause of the harm, in some cases? Especially if it involves copious new substances, both ann Ozempic.

Cally Starforth's avatar

I never had any symptoms of menopause - I think they have brainwashed people so they take the drugs ..

Niamh Ni Argain's avatar

I strongly suspect it.

Vixen's avatar

Or it could be misogyny and that women just have to deal with it. Menopause isn't a universally shared experience in the same way. There are women with heavy periods and women with no symptoms, the same applies towards all stages of life (or easy pregnancy and hyperemesis gravidarum). Why would male doctors in China bother with menopause?

Niamh Ni Argain's avatar

It indeed could be, but I am in favour of considering that maybe it need not be as bad as we are warned.

It's the Chinese and sone other languages that lack a specific word for menopause, not the doctors, cultures with good levels of health and who consume a lot of soya and tofu- maybe that could be a reason.

Vixen's avatar

I respectfully disagree. Language is culture. If there isn’t a word for something that shows me that it’s not prioritized in discussions.

Niamh Ni Argain's avatar

I am not an expert on Chinese culture and so can't say but I read in Adeline Yen Mah's book that women in China tend not to suffer severe menopausal problems. Or it could just be ignored, who knows..

May there be debate, anyway. That's how we will learn.

Danni Macfarland's avatar

I think some focus is good. But it is becoming more than it needs to be and it has just created a market for prescribing hormones and other medications

Danni Macfarland's avatar

We all need an excuse these days and ADHD is the new flavour. There is no way the handheld devices that never leave our person are the problem. 🙄🤦‍♀️. That is one thing I will never understand is why older people are falling into this trap. Getting the ‘diagnosis’ at 50 and thinking it is a good thing.

What a hilariously well written article! As a mental health professional, I agree with your assessment.

Humor is so powerful. I want so badly to send this to my adult children, but they already think I'm a conspiracy theorist. You know, mRNA vaccine platforms are proven science.

As has been said humour is the best medicine. Sorry your children haven't yet seen the light.

So far I have this anagram of 'Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder'

- yet it fit patient thyroid vaccine disorder

There may be a connection between the two.

My 72 year old Mother n law whose for the last 20 or so years fought an addiction with opiates (mainly Vicodin), which she used for energy, because as it does for a lot of people,

It will give you energy and not just have you slobbering on the couch. She went into her Dr. about a month ago and told him she has trouble focusing, I didn’t ask her exactly what all she was asked by her Dr. but I do know she walked out that day with a prescription for Adderall, and has since had the milligrams up’d twice. A 72 year old retired nurse now on Adderall.

What the F&@$ are we doing!!??

I'm noticing a huge uptick of diagnosis (or self-diagnosis) amongst mothers of young children. Could our nervous systems simply be overwhelmed from this demanding season of pregnancy, breastfeeding, lack of sleep, caregiving, etc.? Certainly not. Must be a disorder. Plus, mothers of young children often feel isolated from friends and turn to their phones for connection. It's HARD. But it's not a disorder. And it certainly doesn't necessitate drugs. Maybe sleep, essential nutrients, and self-control on the phone addiction (and I'm first to admit I need help doing those things).

Well written satire that is actually real life for folks who listen to authority figures

"Block them. If they’re a friend, end the friendship. If they’re family, go no-contact and post about your boundaries."

An outstanding method for building relationships and community. Of course, if these are employed we can complain about being lonely. "It can't be me who's wrong. It's the world that's wrong."

How's that working for our culture?

Niamh Ni Argain's avatar

Where the fuck did all this self-obsession bollocks come from?

'Boundaries ' a concept that did not exist until recently, are more important that good friends? Than our loved ones?

What happened to discussing a problem and dealing with it with some maturity and patience? It forgiveness 'toxic,' now?

🔥🔥🔥🔥absolute brilliant writing. Satire at its very best because it exposes the ugly truth of a very serious problem. Thank you for holding up the mirror to us all. If the psychiatry field can’t get their act together then we the readers here at least can become more informed to STOP this nonsense for ourselves and our children. THANK YOU DR. McFILLIN❣️

Scathing! You tell 'em Dr! I get so annoyed when people tell me they have ADHD as an excuse for putting forth zero effort at anything. It's disgusting what people will believe about themselves, especially if told since they are a child. This diagnosis can literally ruin people's motivation to try at life the way we used to all have to, all the time.
