👏 Fear is energy. Pure, electric, alive.’ I’ve had anxiety in me my whole life — mastering it took 50 damned years. Now I control myself. Looking forward to the rest of this series.

The opposite of fear gets sold to us too. We also need a healthy dose of skepticism about the packaged “hope” being peddled.

Fear is just trapped energy in the body. If it doesn’t move, it festers, showing up as nervous system dysregulation, and over time, even disease in the body. That’s why I love EDM or tribal music. My body naturally starts moving, and the energy releases.

After my husband died suddenly due to Zoloft induced suicide, I know emotions got stuck in the shock. Someone told me about Rolfing, a form of somatic bodywork. By session six, when the work reached my diaphragm, everything broke loose. I cried for almost two hours straight. The years of grief and sadness finally moved through me.

I felt lighter afterwards. But I still had to face my fear and reality of being alone with a dead husband. Rolfing didn’t erase the pain. It was a tool and one I’d choose any day over the quick pill 💊 of antidepressants my doctors tried to hand me.

Thank you, Roger, for sparking this reflection with your powerful words. You have a gift of writing the truth with such wisdom and compassion.

I have a graduate degree in public health and have worked in the mental health field for more than a decade. I've long wanted to see a piece like this. It's profoundly disturbing (and disillusioning as a professional) to see the field use "science" to dismiss legitimate reactions to injustice as mere pathology. Thank you for laying it all out with such clarity and ethos.

I would be thrilled to connect with other skeptical professionals if you or other readers are interested. There is strength in numbers if we hope to dismantle this broken system.

Fear is the mind leaving the hear and now and extending itself into the future where it pretends to know exactly what will happen.

I almost didn't click through to read the essay because I've trained myself not to click on a headline that contains the word *fear*.

But I know the source & completely agree with the sentiment.

We are so assaulted by marketing. AI has increased this daily assault. It really is like a sci-fi movie, where humans are in coma pods while the alien force plugs into each pod to feed.

Nailed it. Well done. This is the crux of sooooo much. And yup, in short, "People don't suffer because they feel fear. They suffer because of how they try to escape, numb, or control it." The cascade of effects from that form a degraded "culture" of dysfunction.

"The research is clear, though rarely discussed: chronic fear and stress are at the root of nearly every modern disease. Heart disease, autoimmune conditions, cancer, diabetes, mental illness, addiction. Trace them back far enough and you'll find a nervous system that's been in fear mode for so long it's forgotten how to turn off."

Could you please cite your sources?
