As a former school social worker and then clinic-based for a few years before going p/t private are practice) now looking back over 30* years, I have seen this exponential growth play out with broad, blind acceptance of labeling and medicating children among a huge range of people-regardless of class, race and income. We have been indoctrinated to believe that if it’s an MD who can diagnose us, we are absolved at that point of any further responsibility; we just put ourselves obediently in the hands of their “expertise” and give over the reins

I have no words for the drugging of toddlers... I am a Specialist Health Coach helping adults come off psychiatric drugs. Those who have been drugged since adolescence lack a sense of self. This can only be magnified for those drugged since infancy.

OMG! I am absolutely stunned and horrified at this information. No child under the age of 5 should be prescribed anti-anxiety medications. This is another sign of people who have lost the plot on what a being a parent entails. Being a parent is hard. There are bad days and good days. And parents need to put the needs and health of the child above theirs. Children are emotional creatures because they have not developed the vocabulary to tell us what their needs are. They cry, they act out, they push buttons. They have the feelings of anxiety because they do not understand circumstances or maybe that is just a phase in their life and it can happen at anytime, 2, 6, 10, 14..And for any parent to agree to medicate them is actually in my opinion criminal. And for anyone in the system to agree to medicate young children/infants should step back and understand what they are doing. But alas, the system is becoming so strong and they have put fear into the minds and people are to afraid to push back or to lazy to educate themselves on alternative. In most situations, this will also come down to nutrition. What are we feeding these children?. Vulnerable populations, low income = high ultra processed foods consumption. These children are nutrient deficient. Not anti anxiety/depression or stimulant medication deficient.
God this post is infuriating and it absolutely does not surprise me that my home state of Illinois is leading the way with drugging 5 year olds with antipsychotic drugs. How any doctor can think prescribing Trazadone, Seroquel, or Xanax to a child is appropriate truly disgusts me, starting to think one of the traits medical schools look for is psychopathy.
Excellent exposure save one major category. Teachers & school administrators. They are the front line referrals to the pill mill. It is illegal in many States for them to diagnose & encourage medications for students, but that is never enforced & does nothing to stop them. I know this first hand. Parents go along with this to please the system. We need a mechanism to report these people.
Public schools are also notified when parents are receiving any type of government assistance. That needs to stop as well. They target these students, because of their perceived vulnerability. Many families are in the system on a temporary basis & don't have at risk children.
If anyone has any ability to keep their children away from these people, do so. Care for & educate your children in a direct & intentional manner. They will thank you for it. The public education system is now in the hands of the Marxist.
I heard from the news of instating mental health screenings to school children in a few states in the US from Dr. Josef's Youtube video which horrifies me to no end because it will lead to more prescriptions rather than genuine solutions.
“Vulnerable children” is redundant. There’s not a single child in the world who’s not vulnerable. Period. There’s a great deal to be outraged about in how materially poor children are treated, but I was a middle-class child who was completely unprotected. Not a single adult advocated for me, and constantly being told, often implicitly but sometimes explicitly, that I was of course cared for and protected is deeply triggering. It’s a lie, and a truly damaging one too. I was severely emotionally and medically neglected by my parents and emotionally abused by my mother, but my affluent town was, like all other such in the U.S., a CPS desert. No American social worker will even investigate a parent who can get a private lawyer, and that left me completely unprotected. Think my having an engineer for a dad was an advantage? Think again. My parents had us 1,000 miles away from any extended family that might have helped me because he was offered a good job on the east coast. I had doctors. An advantage? Not when you have one who decides to make money off your neglected asthma instead of reporting g your parents to the state, as he should have. I take seriously the harms and disadvantages described here, but I’ve had it with the preposterous idea that only kids growing up in materially poor neighborhoods are entitled to be thought of as vulnerable. This piece could have been written without the language of that assumption but I’m not surprised it wasn’t. This is why we must start breaking one of the last American taboos: talking about how abusive and negligent middle and upper-class parents can be.

Though I agree historically we're at quite an extreme point due to everything feeling as though it's in crisis, when we're going through at a global scale, a hurricane of crises and critical problems, humans are humans, we're coming in from a similar space. How many of these kids are autistic? Psychiatric medications are used to address symptoms such as "behaviors" and "aggression" which may actually be the child's response to physical symptoms that they cannot express or sensory challenges that a damaged nervous system cannot handle.
Not something that can be answered definitively since the lines between what we define as autism and what not are highly subjective, but it does raises questions as to how much the system is actively medically abusing children that may have different needs and abilities that parents don't know how to meet yet due to difficulties understanding those differences.

Not far off. Surgeons are known to have higher than normal rates of psychopathy, now wondering about psychiatrists
